Life:
What is it really like to live there, in Asia?
There are many
things that can be said. If you want to, do ask questions or share advice on
our
forums.
Marriage:
|
Yes, you can
marry the locals, but be aware that things aren't the same as what you
might imagine; even if you married a fellow expat'. Be forgiving, and
tolerant. |

Korea: To
marry a Korean is difficult, they believe that blood lines are very
important, and so they must keep them as 'pure' as possible. Though, it's
not impossible to marry a Korean. Marriage for a woman in Korea is a serious
thing. If you ever divorce her, then she'll be excommunicated by her friends
as well as her family. The best prospects for a divorced woman in Korea is
to move to another city and see if she can start fresh. Sorry, ladies, I've
heard of nothing of marrying a Korean guy.
Taiwan:
Apparently, marrying a local, boy or girl, is easy to do. There'll be some
cultural differences, but this is the fun bit to discover (try to discover
as much as you can before marrying). Unlike in Korea, a divorce can be done
in half an hour at the town office, and the two of you move on in your own
regular lives, as if nothing happened... well, sort of; you can never
forget.
Japan: In
Japan, they believe that bloodlines are very important, and that the family
blood must be kept 'pure'. However, parents seem to reject initial proposals
for us to marry their children out of formality. I haven't heard of any flat
refusals, ever. Marriage can be done in half an hour at the town office, and
requires a witness. A divorce is done equally fast, but requires the
marriage witnesses signature.

China:
Sorry, I need info on this. Please contact us.
Other Expats:
Sure, you're probably more likely to meet people who are more similar to
you, than most back home. Also, having had overseas experiences, you're
probably got something to go on, that is, exploring this new country
together is more exciting and more interesting.
