Before you go:
Don't
forget to bring your bank account numbers!
Getting
Internet access to your bank account is
important so that you can easily access, transfer your money (perhaps to
your parents) and pay bills, too. Getting a credit card is not just handy,
but great, especially as it can help you out of some sticky situations... But you need Internet
access to pay it off. Getting a credit card with the same bank that you have
an account with is actually rather important.
Or, get
an ATM card with Plus or Cirrus network membership (through your bank). You
can withdraw money through an ATM internationally, although you may
occasionally run into trouble. Once you've opened an account where you're
now living, things should be much easier, as
most banks
in Asia can easily deal with foreign transactions and exchanges.
Also
consider using travellers cheques, when moving between countries.
There are some pseudo-banks that you can
use to move money using the Internet. PayPal is one example; there are
others. The good thing with PayPal is you can either use your credit card
(easy to do), or transfer money using your bank numbers. However, this is
only useful for paying for on-line services.
