Lesson Fillers> Heads and Tails
|
 |
|
These are some small things you
can do as lesson fillers and as a transition between larger activities.
Heads and Tails (Whole class,
small groups, or pairs, 10mins or so)
-
This is a general vocabulary
and spelling review. To demonstrate how to play, write a simple word on
the board, for instance, 'dog'. Then circle the last letter ('g'), then
think of a new word beginning with this letter, like 'golf'. The next word
then starts with that last letter, 'f', and so one. So, with 'f', for
'fish', elicit from the students a word beginning with 'h', like 'hotel',
then elicit another with 'l', and then get them to continue in small
groups. How many words can they produce in two minutes.
-
To add an extra challenge, it
could be themed, like 'jobs', 'animals', etcetera. But, be sure the theme
has an abundance of vocabulary that your students are likely to know.
-
This game requires a medium
sized vocabulary. Adult beginners will probably resort to using content
words from animals or countries, but advanced learners should be able to
avoid this dependence (or you could ban them from it).
-
This game is just a fun
distraction.
