Lesson Fillers > Chinese Whispers

These are some small things you can do as lesson fillers and as a transition between larger activities.

Maths Problems (Pairs and Whole class, 10mins)

  • Have students in pairs or threes.

  • Have students, in two teams race, and list the numbers (one student writing at a time) on the white board (if you have time).

  • Or, elicit numbers, and drill pronunciation of these.

  • Give a sample question like 2+3=5, and elicit the vocabulary, and drill pronunciation.

  • Give another one or two examples, including minus, times, and divided by.

  • Quickly create a list of maths problems (perhaps along side one row of numbers that the students wrote for you, so the maths problems are already numbered for you, to save time)

  • Have students in pairs, quickly work them out, in two minutes.

  • Then, roughly divide the class in half, perhaps where they're seated, and randomly call out the problem number, and so students would call out the correct answers. Award points.
