Lesson Preparation in ELT
|
 |
|
Current Popular Types:
Currently there's CLT
(Communicative Language Teaching), and TBL (Task-Based Learning). TBL is
becoming more popular, and has more studies supporting its success. TBL uses
TTT: Test, Teach, Test lesson format.
Time to prepare:
It typically takes me minimum an
hour to prepare for an hour long lesson. That's assuming I've already had
thinking time, the material prepared, and it's an easy grammar target with
an easy class. Realistically, it takes me about three hours to prepare an
hour long lesson. Of course, the more experience you have (and dedication),
the longer it takes to prepare. As they say, "if you're failing to plan,
then you're planning to fail."
Lesson Planning, TTT:
 |
There are many ways, this is
one suggested way that I adapt in many different ways much of the time.
TTT was developed specifically for the Task Based Approach, but is
adaptable just the same. |
 |
Test: a way of seeing
what students already know on the topic or grammar point |
 |
Teach: What they need
to know to improve their knowledge of language for the topic or grammar |
 |
Test: Give them a
chance to use it, and see if they've acquired the knowledge you intended
them to learn |

Lesson Planning, CLT:
There's no real style nor
suggested means; it's pretty freestyle, sometimes with disastrous results,
other times with good results. See
these books for
help and ideas.
