Presenting a Listening Task in ELT
|
 |
|
As a student of first Korean,
and then Japanese, I've experienced what it's like to just be thrown into a
listening activity or task. Preparation is needed.
Step by step instructions
-
Study or practice the grammar.
-
Review the vocabulary as well.
-
Moments before the listening,
review the vocabulary, the grammar, and any other parts of language that
the students might find difficult.
-
Review pronunciation of
vocabulary and sentence pronunciation of any interesting or unfamiliar
parts
-
Set up the context: best done
by picture or by reading a (easy) short description
-
Students read the questions
they need to answer
-
Listen (no writing)
-
Listen again, pause the CD or
tape at each part after the answer was presented
-
Check answers. Any problem
parts, you can read the tape script yourself, slowing the pronunciation
down, so they can catch the answer. Or explain the difficult part of
language.
-
Then praise them on their
efforts
